The rail ceased its relentless pour,
The dismal clouds parted ways,
At last, the storm seems to end-
At last, the chapter closes-
Is it truly over?
Am I whole once again?
No more will I complain;
In this wave of euphoria,
I sense the full bloom of my healing.
Love, heartbreak, and the heaviness of depression. These themes have found their way into my words, knitting through every line of this book. For as long as I can remember, writing has been the only way I could make sense of these overwhelming emotions, giving them a place to exist outside of myself. This collection was born out of these moments. The moments where love feels euphoric while simultaneously feeling devastating, the moments where heartbreak seems endless and becomes the default emotion, the moments where depression feels too much to bear. But in writing, I discovered that even the darkest feelings can carry beauty. As cliche as it sounds, there’s always a brighter side. Shadows merely represent the fact that there is a presence of light. They exist because of the light they obscure. It’s all about perception: how we choose to interpret the shadows and the light in our lives. Whether you view the cup as half empty or half full. This is much like how depression exists because of the depth of human emotions. So that even in our darkest moments, we are capable of experiencing profound emotions, whether it be joy or sorrow. It’s a reflection of our humanity and our ability to feel deeply.
Isn’t that beautiful?
